“It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not cut corners; somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the milk and replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard week’s work with a five-mile drive to church; somebody who would bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh, and then sigh, and then reply, with smiling eyes, when his son says that he wants to spend his life “doing what dad does”—So God made a Farmer.
Paul Harvey’s infamous words from this 1978 poem ring true to many farmers, but hit home especially hard for singer/songwriter, Adam Warner, a former US Marine. On May 22, 2023, Acres of Grace Farms and Smith Family Farms had the pleasure of hosting Warner, where he shot a music video for his new single, “The Farmer”. This song was inspired by Harvey’s poem. Adam, who has a strong agricultural family background, spoke in detail about what the poem meant to him and what he wanted to convey in his song. Acres of Grace Farms and Smith Farms along with Clay County 4H members as well as Macon County FFA members were present in the video. The students can be seen doing everyday farm activities such as fixing a fence and feeding cows. Acres of Grace Farms and Smith Farms are very appreciative for the opportunity to showcase this artist as well as encourage and inspire others to be active in the agricultural community and wish Adam Warner success and Lord’s blessing on all his future endeavors.
